Classical Patterns格局 · named structures of the chart

When particular stars gather in or around the Life Palace frame, classical readers stopped reading star by star and named the whole structure instead. These named forms, 格局, work like chords in music: the individual notes matter less than the shape they make together. Our calculator checks every chart against the structures below and the AI reading weaves any match into its narrative.

Almost every pattern is defined against the 三方四正 of the Life Palace: the palace itself, its opposite, and its two triangle allies. A few use the flanking positions instead, the two palaces pressed against the Life Palace on either side, which the texts call 夹, a pincer.

紫府同宫Zi Wei and Tian Fu together

Forms when: The Emperor and the Treasurer occupy the same palace.

Authority paired with stewardship. A builder of institutions who both leads and conserves, though pride and caution can argue inside one head.

杀破狼Sha Po Lang

Forms when: Qi Sha, Po Jun, and Tan Lang all reach the Life Palace frame.

The action triangle. A life that moves in bold pivots and reinventions rather than one long straight road. Volatile in youth, formidable once aimed.

Forms when: Tian Ji, Tai Yin, Tian Tong, and Tian Liang all reach the Life Palace frame.

The planner and adviser structure. Suits steady institutions, systems, and service. Wins by consistency and counsel, not by gambles.

Prosperity with pressure. Resources stick to this life, but the flanking blades demand vigilance and make ease feel earned.

火铃夹命Fire stars flanking the Life Palace

An undercurrent of urgency pinching the self from both sides. Channelled into deadlines and sport it drives; unchannelled it frays nerves.

空劫坐命Kong and Jie with the Life Palace

Forms when: Di Kong and Di Jie sit in, or flank, the Life Palace.

The emptiness stars loosen the grip on material things. Unconventional thinking and spiritual appetite, with a lesson about holding wealth lightly.

Forms when: Both literary stars, Wen Chang and Wen Qu, sit in the Life Palace.

Refinement runs deep: eloquence, taste, and examination luck. A chart that writes and speaks its way forward.

Forms when: Lu Cun and the natal Hua Lu both reach the Life Palace frame.

Two streams of prosperity converging on the self. Classical texts count this among the kinder wealth structures.
